On December 22, 2011 the legacy ended, My grandmother of 89 years passed away!
Her final journey was a celebration of a legacy of over 11 children, 44 grandchildren and over 64 great-grand children.
Most of my cousins and extended family I'm just meeting for the first time and the radiant beauty of our family could be seen in our facial features, strength of character and immediate connection!
I am excited with sadness and deep yearning that I did not connect more with "Granny"!
As we celebrated week long home-going of "Nine Night" with songs, lots of music and friends and family travelling miles to share in her memories, I long to be walking behind her as she guides me, with quiet discipline and that 'look'.
We gathered in the same old church that I was brought to for Sunday School, and watch and listened as her eulogy was read.
My grandmother was a discipline women, a matriarch, born in 1922 she and my grandfather are now at rest. Together a last!
The Saturday, ended with the final seal of her casket, oh so peaceful, as we said our final goodbye! I will remember my grandmother getting up very early and going to 'market' to sell her goods, baking the best pudding in the world, and never have to put a switch to my butt. I remember going to market with her and having the time of my life. Yes, I miss the 'good ole days".
But today going forward, I will celebrate the newness of meeting all my relatives from far and near, I eagerly look forward to going 'back home' and continuing the generational blessing she leaves behind.
Tomorrow is a new day, and today I sit and remember the sweet memories of my grandmother and me!
Gone, but your memory lives on within each and everyone of us!
